Introduction: The sea, once considered an obstacle to human interaction and communication during the pre-industrial era, is now an open space. Humanity’s relentless desire to overcome these barriers and establish communication across oceans and seas is the strongest driving force for the upgrading of marine equipment and technology. From the perspective of the development history of marine equipment and the development track of marine civilization, this forum discusses the typical cases of exchange and mutual learning within the global marine civilization related to Fuzhou. These include the presence of ancient humans (Tanshishan) alongside the Fujian rivers, the east transmission of Huangbo culture, the interactions between China and the Ryukyu Kingdom during the Ming and Qing Dynasties, the immigration to Southeast Asia, and the establishment of the Mawei shipping administration. These discussions aim to enhance the construction of the international brand “Marine Fuzhou” and provide the marine power with its own cultural heritage.
