On November 16, the Seminar on the Development of International Maritime Decarbonization Industrial Chain was held at the Straits International Convention and Exhibition Center. Under the theme of “Industry Chain Cooperation forInternational Maritime Decarbonization”, the seminarinvited experts from government departments, industry organizations, state-owned maritime enterprises, research institutes, and authoritative international organizations to engage in discussions.

The global maritime industry is making significant efforts to advance decarbonization. The International Maritime Organizationreleased its Greenhouse Gas (GHG) Reduction Strategy in 2023, setting clear maritime emission reduction targets for 2030 and 2050. This strategy provides a definitive direction for the decarbonization of the global maritime industry.

At the seminar, experts from Dalian Maritime University, China State Shipbuilding Corporation Limited, China Classification Society, China National Investment andGuarantyCorporation, Zhejiang Yada Green Energy, the American Bureau of Shipping, DNV, and the Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology (IMarEST) delivered thematic reports. They shared insights from industry trends, regulatory standards, technical solutions, financing and insurance, and vocational education. These experts also showcased successful case studies and experiences in advancing maritime decarbonization while exploring feasible solutions for the future.

Yin Qing, Senior Engineer at the China Shipbuilding Information Center, noted that global efforts are driving green development in shipbuilding. Europe emphasizes regulatory guidance and technological advancement, Japan focuses on developing next-generation ships, South Korea is consolidating its share in the green ship market, and China is promoting a comprehensive green transformation of its shipbuilding industry.

Experts unanimously agreed that developing the international maritime decarbonization industry chain must address the emission reduction demands faced by shipbuilding and shipping industries under global climate change. They emphasized the importance of fostering collaborative innovation across the industry chain, strengthening upstream and downstream coordination, and advancing multidimensional international cooperation to achieve decarbonization in the maritime sector.(Reporter:Ouyang Jinquan)
