Deep-Sea and Far-Sea Aquaculture Equipment and Industry Ecological Forum Observation: Construction of the Blue Granary to Get High-Quality Protein from Deep-Sea and Far-Sea

The ocean is a strategic place to achieve high-quality development. How can we further build the technical foundation, industrial foundation and talent base to guarantee the high-quality development of the deep-sea and far-sea marine industry and provide technical and equipment support for creating a “blue granary”?

On October 12th, the World Marine Equipment Conference 2023 “Deep-Sea and Far-Sea Aquaculture Equipment and Industry Ecological Forum” was held at the Straits International Conference and Exhibition Center. Guests from government departments, colleges and universities, innovative enterprises, etc., gathered together to focus on the hot issues of marine economic development, discuss the development direction of deep-sea and far-sea marine engineering aquaculture technology, explore technical and commercial cooperation ways of industry, university and research parties, and jointly promote the healthy and sustainable development of China’s deep-sea and far-sea marine aquaculture industry.

“The development of deep-sea and far-sea aquaculture is a major strategic need for China.” Academician Kang-Shen Mai of the Chinese Academy of Engineering declared his intention immediately that at present over 29% of China’s food supply is dependent on the external import, while the “comprehensive food concept” requires food from rivers, lakes and seas to ensure the safety of China’s food supply. Thus, the development of aquaculture in China is the strategy to save feed grains, ensuring the strategic needs of the people’s food supply.

The new aquaculture space for China in the future is in the offshore deep sea.

“Now we mainly use giant cages, giant fences, composite farming platforms, and aquaculture boats as the main models of offshore deep-sea and far-sea sea aquaculture in China, and we have achieved initial success. However, there are also many problems and challenges.” Academician Kang-Shen Mai pointed out that, for example, there are still many technical problems and industrial chain problems to be solved on the deep-sea and far-sea sea; The seamless connection system from the deep sea to the land and then to the table has not yet been established and the construction and sustainable development of the complete industrial chain of deep-sea and far-sea Marine aquaculture still need continuously exploring and practicing boldly.

It is reported that China’s strategic goal of the offshore deep-sea and far-sea sea is to establish a new model of the whole industrial chain through the national strategic investment and the introduction of multi-party capital, so that a number of large-scale deep-sea and far-sea farming platforms will be constructed within 5 to 10 years. In this way, the formation of deep blue pasture production group will contribute to the “Chinese solution” to providing high-quality marine protein for mankind.

“China’s aquaculture production accounts for 60 percent of that of the world, and it is the only major fishing countries in the world whose aquaculture production exceeds fishing production. China has stepped out of an ‘aquaculture oriented’ fishery development road and subverting the fishery development model of harvesting natural resources.” Jieren Li, president of the China Fishing Vessel, Machinery and Gear Industry Association, believes that China’s development of deep-sea and far-sea marine aquaculture and practice of comprehensive food concept has the foundation, advantages and huge potential, and that we should adhere to the principles of market leadership, scientific layout, scientific and technological guidance, green ecology and safe development, build modern marine pastures steadily and step by step, and finally construct a good “blue granary”.

What are the best measures taken by Fujian to promote the development of deep-sea and far-sea marine equipment aquaculture industry of high quality?

Gongxian Chen, vice chairman and general manager of Fujian Investment and Development Group, said that as the main body to undertake the provincial deep-sea equipment farming pilot project, the Group actively explores the “Fujian model” of deep-sea farming equipment leasing with “unified construction, unified financing, overall planned leasing and market-oriented operation” and creates the country’s first semi-submersible fishing and deep-sea aquaculture equipment “Fujian Investment I ( Mintou 1)”.

It is acknowledged that “Fujian Investment I ( Mintou 1)” has raised 130 tons of large yellow croaker since its delivery and operation. According to the inspection and certification of Shanghai Science and Technology Inquiry and Consultation Center of Chinese Academy of Sciences, the quality of large yellow croaker raisedby “Fujian Investment I ( Mintou 1)” is comparable to that of wild products, and the sales market is broad. In addition, “Fujian Investment I ( Mintou 1)” can also provide accommodation, leisure and sightseeing services on the sea, and the number of tourists has exceeded 5,000.

In the future, Fujian Investment Group will take the industry chain as the core, and the seed industry as the starting point, build the advanced intelligent modern marine industry demonstration park and model park integrating the seed industry, scientific research, environmental protection and modular aquaculture through the model of land-sea linkage and sea-sea joint progress, so as to guide the main body of aquaculture to develop towards the deep-sea and far-sea sea and industrial parks, realize the multi-dimensional improvement of ecological, economic and social benefits of aquaculture, and build a high-level “deep blue granary”.

“The development of deep-sea and far-sea marine aquaculture is of great significance, tough task and glorious mission.” Jiantao Guo, chairman of Fujian Qiandong Granary Technology Co., LTD., said that the company, as an enterprise to promote and practice the “one million tons” project in Fuzhou, has invested in the Dinghai Bay of Lianjiang County, “Qiandong I” and “Qiandong II” deep-sea and far-sea sea platform.

With independent intellectual property rights of the “Qiandong” series platform, its volume of aquaculture water is up to 20,000 cubic meters, which can resist supertyphoons (16 category). The platform and breeding data are transmitted to the mobile phone terminal to achieve intelligent farming and the annual output of a single platform is 200 tons of high-quality large yellow croaker. In the next step, the company will continue to improve the construction of the whole industry chain integrating equipment research and development, scientific aquaculture, sales network and marine biochemistry to help the high-quality development of the marine economy.

Deep-sea and far-sea marine aquaculture is a system project with complex technology, integration of three industries, interdisciplinary and extensive involvement. How to integrate resources from all aspects to cooperate?

On the 13th, Deep-Sea and Far-Sea Marine Aquaculture Equipment and Industry Ecological Forum invited experts and enterprises with profound achievements, rich practical experience and successful cases in the development of deep-sea and far-sea Marine aquaculture to make special presentations.
